Frequently Asked Questions

Who's is a part of the committee?

The committee has several supporters. Please see our CREDITS page for a list. Thank you!

Who's running this campaign?

The Re-Erect Hung Far Low campaign is a grass roots effort. It is being helped along buy many business owners both inside and outside of Old Town Chinatown as well as individuals who are just interested in seeing the sign return.

With that said all donations, contributions, and proceeds are directly transferred and managed by the OTCT Business Association.

Are there womens sizes?

Do to requests we recently had a run of women's sizes made.

Can I get the shirts locally?

YES! There are several stores in Old Town Chinatown that have the shirts available. You can find them at the following locations:

PING
Backspace
Northwest Resource Federal Credit Union

Stay tuned as more stores sign up!

What percentage of sales is donated?

Shirts cost roughly $4.00 to make and Paypal charges us about $1.00 for the transaction. When purchasing a shirt online the remianing $14.00 goes directly to the Hung Far Low sign fund managed by the OTCT Business Association.

How much must be raised?

We needed to raise $40,000 to have the sign re-erected. This is in part due to how large the sign is. (40+ Ft & 2000 + Pounds) The sign is also required by the city to be replaced exactly has is was previously. For this reason engineering costs are higher then typical. Currently we have raised through donations, grants, & t-shirt sales roughly $30,000. All in all we have about $10k left to raise as of Aug. 1st.

Where is the sign now?

The decision was made to have the sign taken down after a crew hired to replace the roof noticed dangerous deterioration in the sign's framing and supports. Just removing the 2,000-pound sign cost the nearly $3,000. The sign is currently being stored at Southeast Portland's Able Signs.

Who will be responsible for managing the proceeds?

The Old Town Chinatown (OTCT) Business Association has established an account for the Hung Far Low sign, and will act as custodian to ensure the sign is properly maintained for future generations.

The OTCT Business Association is a registered 501C6 Non-Profit Organization registered in Oregon State and founded in Sept. 2006. You may view the registration online at here.

What will the proceeds be used for?

All fundraiser proceeds will be used to restore the sign and replace it to its rightful position on corner of NW 4th Avenue & Couch St. Any additional proceeds collected will be used for ongoing sign maintenance and possibly restoring the sign to a lighted sign! The management of these proceeds will be the responsibility of the Old Town Chinatown Business Association.

When purchasing at a store there is an additional $4 consignment charge. The only exception at this time is PING which donates the full amount.
