This website smells an awful lot like a scam to me. No idea if a portion of the t-shirt sales actually goes to the HFL cause, how much they need to raise to re-erect the sign much less who's pocketing the money for the contributions. Beware beware

I appreciate your skepticism, and I will take part blame for that. We have been meaning to put up a FAQ page answering these questions, and I just have not had a chance.

In response to your comments:

1) SALES: The shirts cost us $4.00 to make and Paypal takes roughly $1.00 for processing the transaction, the remaining funds towards re-erecting the sign. The Paypal account is in the name of and managed by the Old Town Chinatown Business Association, a 501C6 Non-Profit. No funds are touched by anyone else.

2) NEEDED: We needed to raise $40,000 to have the sign re-erected. This is in part due to how large the sign is. (40+ Ft & 3000 + Pounds) The sign is also required by the city to be replaced exactly has is was previously. For this reason engineering costs are higher then typical. Currently we have raised through donations, grants, & t-shirt sales roughly $30,000. All in all we have about $10k left to raise.

3) FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Again, all proceeds are managed in a Trust for the sign by the OTCT Business Association. You can find there registration listed on the Oregon Secretary of State's website.

Since the sign is down this is the opportune time to brighten up the whole "Chinatown" area by having the sign "Lighted"; I hope that you have considered this in your plans.
